Holy Cross Cave
Commission Date: July 2015
This project was a commission from a Catholic Primary School to build a small Easter cave close to the school entrance. It was to be located close to where a large ceramic cross had been installed by me a few years before. Unlike the cross project, in which all the school’s pupils took part, the Easter Cave was constructed by just me because of Health and Safety requirements.
The cave was created as a backdrop for the school’s annual Easter festival. This is a widely attended event each year, with pupils, families and the wider community taking part. The structure was made out of a combination of concrete, concrete girders, wire mesh and cement. Finally, it was given a coat of durable masonry paint and fluid acrylics and protected with a weather shield solution.
