In the Spring of 2025 an exciting multi-media show combining environmentalism with visual and performance art is planned in collaboration with Climate Cymru. Based in the Haverfordwest community art centre, Haverhub, and collaborating with a range of partners, the exhibition will feature video, installation, sculpture, pictures and live performances, spread over a week in late April. The curator, Lawrence Mathias, has worked at Haverhub previously, hosting a show with another artist, Carrie Mackinnon, on the wide ranging theme of migration and sanctuary, ‘Long Roads Home’ (April 2024).

‘It’s About the Climate…’ will have contributions from people and organisations who are active in the fields of environmental sustainability. Froghall Farm in nearby Spittal is a leader in local rewilding projects and has planted 85,000 trees on its 200 acres in the last ten years. It is partnering the event as an open air venue for several days in the week of the show. A temporary sculpture park and stage for live streamed performances is planned in one of the farm’s meadows, with an opportunity for visitors to explore the wonderful new woodlands.

Nearby Scolton Manor Park is another potential partner. For decades it has played an important part in local sustainability initiatives, from tree planting and habitat creation to ecologically sound new building. The show’s curator is currently discussing a partner programme with the Park.

Other participants are potentially members of Pembrokeshire Friends of the Earth and  other environmental organisations. Local youth centres and schools are being invited, with young people encouraged to share artwork, music and performance for the live streamed events. The show will promote the constructive ideas and wishes for the future which all of its participants might like to share. Key information points and suggestions will feature throughout the week, displayed amidst art work and in interactive formats, summarising essential green ideas. The show will mix art and science in a clear and lively way, its aim being to encourage everyone who visits to take part in the climate debate.

Climate Cymru would be central in all this as a bridge between the different groups and businesses in Wales committed to the environment. As a great linking organisation with lots of experienced know-how, it would help focus the show’s creative programme for a sustainable future. ‘It’s About the Climate…’ would also welcome any contributions from Climate Cymru’s partners, as at the event’s core is a belief in the value of collaboration. After all, the challenges ahead are ones which will affect each of us, and can only really be tackled through our mutual engagement with them.
